Yes, if the piece sets are compatible (i.e. use the same names for all the pieces, the same color prefixes, and the same graphics type) then it is always easy. You only have to assign graphDir the path of the directory they are in, and call Display() to make the change show up. You can of course achieve all that by copying the piece images to a directory of your own, and renaming them. This is what I did for Chu Shogi, where I renamed the XBoard pictogram set to conform to the Mnemonic set naming.
