Hello HG! I have played against the diagram's AI and also watched games played against itself and I could not help myself from noticing 2 obvious flaws in it's play.
- the diagram's AI does not push pawns in the opening
- the diagram's AI moves way to often the same piece twice in the opening
Is it possible to make an option for games close to chess or Grand Chess (as my apothecary games are) where these things are taken into account?
Also, if you can do something about the joker's value it would be awesome.
I see your points, and I'd like to add that it is probably wrong in apothecary chess to push too many pawns. But some pawns may be pushed.
@Fergus, Hello! This Metamachy preset says it is a work in progress. Is that still the case? I need it as an example for cooking the Zanzibar- S game which is quite similar.
Can I save an Include file similar to Metamachy or is it any permition needed? Later Edit: I realise the question is not very clear. I want to create a new include file for Zanzibar. Can I? Or do I need some special permission?
Please take a look at my 2 apothecary chess games. I think either I did not understood the way promotion should be implemented either there is a bug in the diagram! They are here:
I'm sorry for that. I meant the behaviour described in the game rules: "Pawns promote to any auxiliary pieces on the players 8th rank, any auxiliary or average peice at the 9th rank, and any piece at rank 10.For the purpose of limiting material when physical play is involved pawns are also restricted to promote to the pieces in reserve. In the reserve enter all the pieces captured of the colour of the promoting pawn and from the begining of the game 1 queen, 1 rook, 1 knight & 1 mameluk."
and
"Pawns may promote to any auxiliary piece on the players 8th rank, any auxiliary piece or average piece at the 9th rank, and any piece at rank 10.For the purpose of limiting material when physical play is involved pawns are also restricted to promote to the pieces in reserve. In the reserve there are initially 1 queen, 1 rook,1 champion and 1 knight and later on enter any of the player's lost pieces."
So mostly the same thing.
It promotes to archbishop and griffin respectively, automatically!
You are correct, it works fine if the piece table is open!
Does anyone know anything more about this : https://www.chess.com/news/view/new-alphazero-paper-explores-chess-variants?
I'm surprised that this study does not get more attention here.
May anyone please answer if I can save an include file on my own!
I noticed that too, and that is what I had thought; thanks for sharing that!
Thanks for that, HG!

This game does not yet an interactive diagram, despite being a popular game here. @HG, Should I attempt one how do I write the shades function for this one (and for myself in another how do I do it with 4 shades -yellow and silver not just silver with yellow at the same ranks as cherry and silver at the same ranks with dark blue- although I know Fergus does not consider this necessary)?. Also for the Royal piece what should I do? I remember you guiding wdtr2 in something similar.
Found it. Thanks Kelvin!
HG, I still have not understood how you implemented the three shades or how I would implement 4 shades :)!
@Fergus, For this game is perfect, the way you did it. I meant as an option. I see it better is 4 colors when I move knight riders. At least on a 12x12. That is it, and it is not possible anyway with the interactive diagram. It is possible with presets and tried a picture and liked it.
@Fergus, I think the best way to open the way for me to creating a zanzibar-s preset would be if you can expand the metamachy piece set with the few other pieces needed for zanzibar-s. This way I do not have do do a lot of workaround caused by the need to change the names of pieces (as allfaerie many has other letters).
I've done nothing yet Jean-Louis. I'm trying to make as professional as possible!
I have tested the final presets for apothecary chess. They have shown no more trouble. I was wondering if people will be interested in an apothecary chess tournament. Here are the preliminary rules should it happen.
- Each round a player plays a game of apothecary chess-classic and apothecary chess modern
- In order to avoid bye, myself will play only if the number of players is odd
- The tournament is a double round robin if there are 4 players, a single round robin if there are 6 or 8 players. A swiss system with 6 rounds if there are 10 or more players.
- Should the tournament be a swiss system the pairings in round one will be random
- Remember that there is a possibility that a game has finished 0.75-0.25. This will be used in rankings
- Time controls are 1 move/day
- There are no prices except for the honor of winning the tournament!

Thank you Zhedric!

I've been using the diagram here: https://www.chessvariants.com/index/listcomments.php?itemid=1200173ceb826d24&order=DESC.
It seems that only when playing against the computer this situation appears. A sequence leading to it starts with: 1. f7 f8 2.g7. And then black moves something. White tries to go g8 and now white has the option of capturing en passant at g7. This should not happen.
