Great Shatranj

Game by Joe Joyce, 2006

zrf by Christine See here for full info on game

Set up of pieces are shown in above screenshots

Pieces are typical Shatranj like pieces

Normal rules in chess like games.  Win by checkmate or reduce enemy to lone King.

PLEASE NOTE This release of Great Shatranj has 2 zrf files, Great Shatranj and Great Shatranj-a.

'Great Shatranj' Variant 1 plays with pawn promotion to General.

Variant 2 plays with pawn promotion to Jumping-General.

'Great Shatranj-a' Pawn promotion is to a captured piece only.

I did notice this here on the game page

where Joe says  'Several people have suggested that the pawns get an initial double step.'

Joe and I realeased 'The Shortrange Project' which has games nearly exactly like this game with the pawn double step.

Difference is instead of the 'General', which one square all directions, we have a piece that slides 1-2 squares on the queen lines.
