Check out Glinski's Hexagonal Chess, our featured variant for May, 2024.

This page is written by the game's inventor, Zbigniew Kokosiński.

Asymmetrical chess

Our asymmetrical chess variant was inspired by the setup of an existing variant called Diagonal chess (well balanced). This new 2-player variant is playable with any computer program for classical chess which allows setting any initial position. So you can try it immediately!

Setup

The asymmetrical chess variant is played on conventional chessboard and 15 chessmen per player. The initial setup is shown in Fig.1.

Pieces

Pieces are the same as in standard chess and have identical abilities, but only 7 pawns per player are allowed.

Rules

Rules of assymetrcal chess match exactly the rules of standard chess.
