Bland Chess
Rules
It is the same as FIDE chess, but nothing is allowed to move/capture/check diagonally. Knights still move same as normal chess.I wrote a list of how each piece moves in Bland Chess:
- Pawn: It cannot capture. It can still promote to a piece that can capture, though. Promotions are to Bland Chess pieces.
- Knight: Same as chess.
- Bishop: The bishops cannot move at all in this game.
- Rook: Same as chess.
- Queen: Same as the rook.
- King: As the normal king, but it can only move orthogonally, it cannot move diagonally.
Notes
This is based on an idea which is mostly from my brother, the name "Bland Chess" is also from my brother, I just cleaned it up a bit. He also suggested "Sharp Chess" where only diagonal moves are allowed, no orthogonal moves, but I didn't submit that one because I realized right away that it wouldn't work. This 'user submitted' page is a collaboration between the posting user and the Chess Variant Pages.
