Hex graphics
When I started creating my more exotic hex variants - AltOrth, Ringworld Chess, Chevron Ranks, et cetera - I used Ascii Art graphics to cover so wide a range of new pieces. Now I plan to switch 4 Linepiece Hex Chess to such graphics as I am adding variants with new Steward-like pieces. I am wondering whether to apply them further as my use of ffen diagrams has not been universally appreciated. I can see advantages of both systems, and can summarise them as follows:
ffen diagram:
* correctly aligned for Wellisch orientation;
* very efficient on memory;
* takes up less space on screen, and so suits pages with many subvariants.
Ascii Art:
* correctly aligned for Glinsky orientation;
* easy to read as text file or other offline means - WYSIWYG;
* can be read on browsers that have difficulty reading ffen.
I am particularly interested in whether anyone considered Ascii Art better suited to the ffen-unfriendly Armies of Faith pages, which have so far had cumbersome one-off images. Many are hex-prism and one that isn't has an Ascii Art diagram for its current form as I was unable to post the images designed for it.
