If I had a dollar for every mistake of that quality or greater that I've made in my life, I wouldn't need to buy a Powerball ticket. ;)

@Bob: oh many thanks. I was blind. I had put a squirrel instead. Now corrected, ;=)

I did mean the Badger (I keep doing that). But no matter how much I flush the cache, "A Kirin is promoted to Badger" doesn't show the same Badger icon as the rest of the page.

@Bob: I missed the Beaver because ... there is no Beaver in this game. :=)

Do you mean the Badger? Me I see the Badger icon. Maybe it had disapeared for a while as other icons while our editors were changing something. Maybe. Have you tried to flush the cache?

For an Alfaerie representation of the Okapi, while the Kangaroo isn't a bad choice, I've tended to use the Horse because of its stripes at the lower end.

(Oh, and you missed updating the Beaver's icon in the Rules section.) :)

Since these are mythological creatures I have to disagree with the way they are used to move and capture in this game.

The moves of the Phoenix and (to a lesser extent) Medusa are established across multiple games.

Florin Lupusoru wrote on Tue, Mar 5 08:20 AM UTC:Good ★★★★

Two of the pieces used here (Phoenix and Medusa) I will be using in my Titanic Chess but I'll have to use different moving and capturing abilities for that purpose. Since these are mythological creatures I have to disagree with the way they are used to move and capture in this game. But appart from that, this looks like a great game.

@HG: thank you. It's so much simpler.

H. G. Muller wrote on Fri, Jan 26 10:34 PM UTC in reply to Jean-Louis Cazaux from 08:54 PM:

Just a little advice on how this could be done without including additional JavaScript on the page. What you want is that some pieces change type in a pre-determined way when they reach last rank. That is what the Diagram calls 'morphing', and you could achieve it by including a line morph=X below the definition of the piece you want to morph into an 'X'. The X here is a shorthand for a board image with X everywhere on the last rank, as the rule is that ranks are written high to low, separated by slashes (as in FEN), nothing happens on omitted ranks, and incomplete ranks are filled by repeating what you wrote (which was just X, so XXXXXXXX).

So you could have suppressed  normal promotion by setting maxPromote=0, and included a morph= for Pawn, Soldier, Phoenix and Kirin. (Or you could have kept normal promotion for Pawn and Soldier by setting maxPromote=2, and make that automatic by promoChoice=Q, and only use morphs for Phoenix and Kirin.)

One advantage is that you can refer to pieces by their ID this way, so that you wouldn't make the mistake of using a wrong number for the piece type. Even whn you decided to add extra piece types later.

@A.M.DeWitt: thank you very much for pointing this. I had made a mistake while coding the ID. Now it's corrected.

A. M. DeWitt wrote on Fri, Jan 26 05:10 PM UTC in reply to Jean-Louis Cazaux from Thu Jan 25 03:58 PM:

The Pawns and Soldiers in the Diagram promote to King. Did you mean to have them promote to Begum instead?

Otherwise, this page looks good enough to be approved.

@ editors (old ones and new ones): I hope that someone will release this page for publication finally.

Although I did my best to present this page the most nicely possible, if anything is wrong in that page, let me know. It is cruel to wait several weeks with no feedback. In the meantime, that game plays well on Game Courrier. Thanks.

Thanks, yes there are a lot of animals starting by RA. I had Raven for something else, the Ski-Rook, as a pun with Rook-animal, and I'm glad to see the Raven in Makromachy. I had thought of Racoon, but it is physically too similar to the Badger, so not suitable for Patchanka. For the moment, I keep the Ram. Maybe one day I will change, it took me years to abandon the crocodile...

Bob Greenwade wrote on Sat, Jan 13 06:51 PM UTC in reply to H. G. Muller from 06:43 PM:

Raven and Rabbit already exist (though admittedly the latter is my own creation), but Racoon could do. So could Ragdoll (a breed of domestic cat).

Roach might also fit, though it may have the same problem as Rat.

H. G. Muller wrote on Sat, Jan 13 06:43 PM UTC in reply to Jean-Louis Cazaux from 06:11 PM:

@Bn Em: Rat would work. But I don't like to put this animal in my game, just a matter of taste.

You could also do Raven, Rabbit, Racoon.

@Bn Em: Rat would work. But I don't like to put this animal in my game, just a matter of taste. I prefer to put a Ram, even if a Ram has existed in some other games, I don't think it is too much popularized for the moment. I think it is a good name for a piece that moves like a Rook and may also leap. I have already designed and 3D printed a Ram. But thanks for the suggestion.

Bn Em wrote on Tue, Jan 9 01:10 PM UTC in reply to Jean-Louis Cazaux from Mon Jan 8 09:04 PM:

As Bob notes, Badger exists but apparently only on the obscure end of piece names: Taikyoku has at least one kind, as does Man and Beast 20. Ofc since Taikyoku is in any case loose with its naming and Gilman's Badger is Hex‐prism‐exclusive so no problem there, and it's nicely mnemonic.

Likewise, Ram has some prior use, not only as the Advancer but also in a couple places as the Siege device, as well as in H.G.'s Megalomachy; since these are typically square‐board pieces it's perhaps a little more contentious.

Rat seems pretty much unused, if perhaps an odd animal to associate with rooklike moves

Bob Greenwade wrote on Mon, Jan 8 11:07 PM UTC in reply to Jean-Louis Cazaux from 09:04 PM:

I actually did a search for Badger, and I think it's come up in a few games, but not to any standardized degree. I really like it for the BD.

I've seen Ram cited as an alternate name for the Advancer, so a change there may be in order. Rat, perhaps?

💡📝Jean-Louis Cazaux wrote on Mon, Jan 8 09:04 PM UTC:

@Bn: I've seen your remark. For RA and BD, I've already chosen other names which fit well:

RA >> RAm

BD >> BaDger

It helps when I play (on-going game by Game Courier).

Pls tell me if those names have been already used, I'll see if it is a problem (I guess there had been other Rams). Thxs

Hoping that this page, and the one presenting the GC Preset, will be soon approved.

yes, I confirm for the white, it's 249/249/249 instead of 255/255/255. And the size is 50x50.

The one I had sent in my message was 48x48, as the other png icons used on CVP, and was really white 255.

HG, are you able to correct that?

💡📝Jean-Louis Cazaux wrote on Wed, Jan 3 06:59 PM UTC:

I put the Badger's icons and the result is not as good as I was hoping.

The black one has a different blue tone than the other pieces, almost purple; and the white one is maybe with a different white (this one I'm not sure yet). For both, I think I've made the icons too large, I thought I had paid attention to the size, I'm surprised.
