Freakshow Chess

Introduction

Elements from "Bishop Chess", "Knight Relay", "Arrow Pawn Chess" and "Greater Chess" are combined. The board is slightly larger.

Setup

Starting position:

Pieces

Dukes move like a queen, but only 1 or 2 squares.

Knights function as in "Knight Relay Chess". They don't relay to the bishops, but they do relay to arrow pawns.

Pawns function as arrow pawns in "Arrow Pawn Chess".

Bishops function as bishops in "Bishop Chess". They can't capture or be captured.

Pieces that do capture capture by displacement.

Rules

Change of rules from orthodox chess:

¤ Played on an 8x9 board instead of an 8x8 board.

¤ There’s no castling.

¤ Pawns are arrow pawns. Move one or two steps orthogonally. Capture one step diagonally. En passant apply to all two step orthogonal moves. They don’t promote.

¤ D=Duke piece. The duke moves like a queen, but only one or two steps.

¤ Knights function as in “Knight Relay Chess”. They can not capture or be captured. They relay to all pieces except for the bishops, and they also relay to the arrow pawns.

¤ Rooks function as they do in orthodox chess (unless a knight relays to them).

¤ Bishops function as in “Bishop Chess”. They can’t capture or be captured. The player wins by reaching his/her last rank with a bishop.
