Laser Chess was invented in 1987 by Mike Duppong. The main idea of laser chess is that pieces move like chess pieces, but have sides with mirrors. One can also fire the laser piece, and this may be used to eliminate pieces. The purpose is still to get the opponents king piece.

On laserchess.org, one can find a freeware program for Laser Chess, and for Advanced Laser Chess, an extended version on a 15 by 11 board. The program runs on the Windows platform, but versions running on other operating systems are planned. On the website, you can also find the rules of the games and the history of Laser Chess.
