I believe it is an optimally sized hexagonal chess game, facillitating fast-paced, high-conflict play. It may be small compared to the hexagonal variants with 91 hexagons, but I think those variants are over-sized and ineffeicient. Hexes Chess, with its rotational symmetry accommodates a complete set of pieces on 54 hexagons. The beauty of a hexagonal format is precisely that it does more with less. I mean no disrespect to Glinski, McCooey, and others that have designed large hexagonal chess games, but this point seems to have been missed by them. Using HTML tags in the comment
