Check out Symmetric Chess, our featured variant for March, 2024.

Knightsbridge

Dave E. Smith send me information about this simple chess variant, which he read about in an old Apple Basic programming book, many years ago.

Rules

The game is played on a 7 by 7 board. Each player receives 14 knights, which are placed in his first two rows. So, the starting setup is:

White:
Knight a1, a2, b1, b2, c1, c2, d1, d2, e1, e2, f1, f2, g1, g2.

Black:
Knight a6, a7, b6, b7, c6, c7, d6, d7, e6, e7, f6, f7, g6, g7.

The object of the game is to capture all the knights of the opponent.

Ribbit

Samuel J. Robberts asked about a very similar game, called Ribbit. This game may have been played in the middle ages. The main difference is that the game is played on an 8 by 8 board. The knights are called Frog here.
