A new error in apothecary chess- classic[Subject Thread] [Add Response]
Aurelian Florea wrote on Fri, Sep 11, 2020 07:54 AM UTC:

Hello Fergus, In the game below:

https://www.chessvariants.com/play/pbm/play.php?game=Apothecary+Chess-Classic&log=catugo-panther-2020-252-429

when black tries to move the king, a threefold repetition is claimed. Any idea why?

Summary of Game variations, Clock times and other Information. Missing description[All Comments] [Add Comment or Rating]
Greg Strong wrote on Fri, Sep 11, 2020 03:59 AM UTC:

This page is a mess which, in my view, should not have been published. If there are over 30 variants to Tiger Chess, they should be listed on that page, not here, were no one would find them anyway - since the name of the page, "Summary of Game variations, Clock times and other Information", does not indicate what it is.

If you'd like to format this variant information in reasonable HTML, I will happily add it to the bottom of the Tiger Chess page. But I am scheduling this page for deletion a month from now. If nothing further is done, I will add a comment to the Tiger Chess page linking to archive.org's copy of this page so that those interested in Tiger Chess will still be able to find it.

Makes sense, and thank you for the compliment. I figure it would be more approachable and manageable for ChessV than 8-Piece Chess (despite my personal love of the latter).

Posted. Interesting looking game!

I converted the graphics to PNG so I could make the backgrounds transparent. The backgrounds were white and the web page background is not white. I may make some small edits to the HTML formatting later, but for now it is pretty good.

You're welcome.

Yes, ChessV is still in development, off-and-on. New versions will be forthcoming, but I make no guarantees about what they will include. The effort involved with programming support for the Lancer is probably "moderate". But there is an almost infinite list of things that should be added, and honestly, there are many that are desired by a larger group of users. But it may happen at some point. It is an interesting piece.

Awesome, thanks Greg! On a related note, do you have any plans for ChessV updates? It'd be cool to see how the engine handles Full Cavalry. Hope all is well.

Yes, "Full Cavalry" is just fine. I'll try to review it tonight. On a quick look it appeared fine.

JT K wrote on Thu, Sep 10, 2020 10:08 PM UTC in reply to Greg Strong from 06:46 PM:

Greg, is Full Cavalry okay? I know there's a "Cavalry Chess" but I thought that Full Cavalry seemed unique enough and appropriate for what it is. Let me know, thanks!

Since members submitting new games with names that are already used has become a common problem, I have added a new alert message to the member submission page to make users aware of the issue.

Who is currently reviewing new submissions? I'm just calling attention to the variant Full Cavalry I created recently.

I see. That is currently not possible either. It is so much like the thing I mentioned first, that it would probably be easiest to combine such features: by default have some way to paste games into the diagram, but allow a way for the diagram description to define an initial value for that input element.

What makes the matter more intriguing is that this happens only with a particular log and using my laptop with Windows 10 and Chrome. No problem using mobile devices.

Clicking on pieces to move them is handled by JavaScript, and since it is a client-side language, it can vary from browser to browser. I have been testing the new code mainly in Firefox. If something is not working right in a particular browser, please tell me about it in detail so that I can look into it.

📝Carlos Cetina wrote on Tue, Sep 8, 2020 06:13 PM UTC:

I discovered that the log is loaded correctly from the main logs page only when I am NOT signed in. From my "Your Active Game Logs + Open Invitations" page, being me signed in, the log is displayed rightly when I click on my name, but if I click the link listed in the logs column, then the problem arises.

What makes the matter more intriguing is that this happens only with a particular log and using my laptop with Windows 10 and Chrome. No problem using mobile devices.

Anyway, thanks for answering, I already made my move.

I am not sure what you mean by that. You want to be able to paste the game back into the diagram, and then step through it with the navigation button?

I wasn't thinking of that, as such, though it's not a bad idea. I was thinking of including a game in the HTML used to define a diagram. This could be useful for showcasing past games.

I am not sure what you mean by that. You want to be able to paste the game back into the diagram, and then step through it with the navigation button? Currently you can only step through the game you are currently playing (even after it ended), and the memory of it is erased as soon as you start a new one. I suppose I could add some text entry in the AI bar where one could paste a game so that the JavaScript can see it. I am not sure whether it is possible to attach a handler for Ctrl-V to the page as a whole, to trigger importing it from the clipboard. In any case I would have to add a SAN parser, but that should not be too difficult.

The following log has a strange glitch because the page doesn't load completely and I can't make my move. Could you please take a look at it?

I don't think my computer or the browser I use has anything to do with it.
