Chess 256 is only about where the orthodox pawns start. This game is about replacing orthodox pawns with unorthodox ones. The only similarity is the 8 random generations. I can't say that I think that this Random Pawns variant is a very good idea. Eight strange and often unsymmetrical pawns are going to make a game with very poor clarity, and some of the pawns seem intrinsically awkward or of little value.
