I could make prisoner captureable, but after capture he will be mortal and royal.

If the prisioner could capture, then he would be unstopable. After all, this is a Convict who's weapons have been conficated, so he should act like one.

It's okay, but I would change only one thing...the prisoner should be allowed to capture. Hey, he's a convict, he should start acting like it!

David,
In this case, I was inspired by one of the versions of Karl Schultz' Hunter-Falcon Chess that an extra cell on either end of the e-file where the Kings start, and can only be entered by the Kings. We do not currently have a page for this game (Ed has an applet for what he calls Falcon-Hunter Chess, but it is a different version of the game).

Boards with a cell or two beyond the first and last ranks have been available as a mutator (as Joao Neto would say) at least since George Parker published Chivalry in 1888. See the World Camelot Federation website at http://groups.msn.com/worldcamelotfederation/home.msnw

Peter, were you in any way inspired by my variants BLACK HOLE CHESS or
TRUBIX
when you made this entry? I haven't seen that many other games which
are designed on a standard board with an extra square behind the
center square of the first and last row except for these two examples
I just sited. If you can think of any other games like this please let me

know because I would like to see them. Your board reminds me of these
variants which I created.... other than that I will have to playtest
your game first before offering other comments.
