Good point, there's no Baskerville Chess page on this site - and there isn't a rules page for Shafran's either, just the Friedlander implentation page.
There is even earlier hexagonal variant: Baskerville chess from 1929. It probably had pawns of McCooey and Shafran chess. By the way, where can i read about it (it's mentoided somewhere, but there is no it's full description).
Pawn with this way of movement on hexagonal board appeared in Shafran's chess, wich is earlier than McCooey's Chess.
