World Chess Variants Championship.[All Comments] [Add Comment or Rating]Jeremy Good wrote on 2006-10-12 UTCInterestingly, a recent USCF (United States Chess Federation) tournament in Florida mentioned a 'world progressive chess championship' as one of its sideline events. That event took place in the last month or two. I will attempt to contact the director of that event at some point in the future to find out more. I'll report my findings on this site. Christine Bagley-Jones wrote on 2006-10-12 UTCThere was a recent comment saying that this should not be regarded as a 'world championship'. i just want to say here that i strongly disagree with that comment, i see no reason why this should not be seen, as indeed, a 'world championship'. Sam Trenholme wrote on 2006-09-24 UTCYou know, it's interesting because both Grand Chess and Circular chess, in fact have world champìonships and world champions (Grand Chess's world champion, John Vehre, has been known to play games right here on the variants server). The idea of a world champion for chess and all of chess' variants is an interesting one. It's like a triathlon, where the winner is a good swimmer, but not necessarily the world's best swimmer, a good bicyclist, but probably not as good as Lance Armstrong, and a good, but not world's best, runner. I'm sure both Kramnik and Topalov would be beaten in Shogi by the world Shogi champion, but this doesn't make them poor FIDE chess players. - Sam Stephen Stockman wrote on 2006-09-23 UTCExcellent ★★★★★Grand Shatranj D has been added to the 2006 World Championship Tournament.
