Clever use of Bishops on centre file - reminiscent of hex variants. This variant influenced my Unhexed Chess and I have now acknowledged that.

The link is broken, but the 4-player variant on this page shows the influence of hex variants so I expect that the hex variant is on similar lines to those of Gilnsky and McCooey. The 4-player variant is an improvement on the traditional FIDE-board-plus-setback-camps variants: it is smaller (though not as small as my own Fivequarters), and has the added advantage of being square, with no concavities requiring special rules.
