This is quite a nice variants. I playtested it 'live' the other night,
and I have to say that it is a very nice execution of a simple yet quite a
good idea, which really gave a new depth to the game. It's so far one of
my more favourable variants of this contest.
There is one question though, whether an explanation could be delivered
regarding the pawn rule (rule 7). From what I understood, whenever one
captures a king, both players fill their second row with pawns, as long as
there is no friendly pawn on that column. Is that the right way of
interpreting the rule?
Another thing is that this rule made the game quite longer and slightly
less fun, not to mention a bit drawish.
The nature rule could be understood due to the fact that pawns promote to
kings, but having to create a line of pawns after each capture is probably
the only major flaw in an otherwise quite a well-designed variant.
