Well, I learned today, or yesterday as I now write, that this association wasn't limited to the Old World. While reading Ignatius Donnelly's <I>Atlantis: The Antediluvian World</I>, I came across this curious bit of information: 'The Peruvians called gold the tears of the sun: it was sacred to the sun, as silver was to the moon'(113).
