Thanks to David Howe, the mistake has been corrected. This page is now correct, my previous message are not relevant anymore.

There is a big mistake, coming from Stephen Leary's Xiangqi FAQ which was confused on that point: this game is not The Game of Three Kingdoms.
It is the Game of Three Friends, Sanyou Qi.

Just to respond to previous posts:
The mid triangle section is just like the river in a regular 1-on-1 game.
Meaning it's possible to check both opponents at the same time (or any
other moves). I guess it would be less confusing if the lines that made
up
the triangles are done with dotted lines instead of solid lines. So
basically no pieces would ever actually land on any 'points' within the
big triangle.
And to win the game, you would have to beat both opponents.
When I was little, I used to team with my younger brother and play
against
our dad and it was a good learning experience.

No enough firing power on a large chessbroad.

Please tell how the pieces would move in the triangle spaces, for example the knight. Also, is there a river? can the elephant become an attacker? Please tell us. Thanks for your time.
