The arrangement of Bishops is very clever, preserving their FIDE positions relative to the King, Queen, and remaining Rook and their different square colours. The ability to recruit enemy pieces is interesting, like Shogi but with the immediacy of Othello/Reversi, and would be very good (with modification to the Knight capture) on a full-sized board.

This is a very, very nice game, I don´t know how would be the game play and dynamics in a bigger board, but it may be even better in someones, worst in others, depending on board size. It is a good project to think about a bigger board version of Take Over Chess, it has merits enough to try.

I haven't tested the game, and am a bit afraid that the two-way capture
makes the pieces too powerful. But the game looks promising, to say the
least. So I give it a rating of Excellent as it is, or, if need be, with
some twisted rule which decides at any time whether the piece captures by
replacement or by jumping, or with your suggested rule that capture by
jumping is possible on an adjacent piece.
(I believe you're right to pit the 64-square version for PBEM.)
