Thanks everyone! It was very interesting. The games which was most interesting to me are Chinese Chess (wonderful endgame), Eurasian Chess, Courier Chess and Wildebeest Chess. Special thanks to my opponents in it.

Cool, maybe we should do this every year. I'd go for 2 a year :)!

I have updated this page to show the final results.  I've also added additional information about how the tournament was conducted for historical interest.  For instance, I asked all participants to rank the games in each category and I scored them accordingly.  In case anyone was curious, the total points for each game is now shown.

No draws the whole tournament, that one is for the history books :)!

Congratulations, Vitya!  Thanks, Everyone!  Thanks, Carlos, for tallying it up :)

We'll have a 2018 tournament if there is sufficient interest.  Will have to give some thought about what we do.

Congratulations Vitya for such an overwhelming victory!

Thanks Greg for organizing the event. I enjoyed it greatly. There will be a 2018 edition?

Is there anyway a classification available? I am supposed to be 3+0=3-, but who knows?

💡📝Greg Strong wrote on Sun, Dec 10, 2017 12:55 AM UTC:

Ok, games for the third and final round have been assigned.  Good luck everyone!

Sorry, wdtr2, the tournament is well underway, so it is too late to join.  But we should have another one next year.

Erik Lerouge wrote on Wed, Dec 6, 2017 08:12 PM UTC:

Sorry, I come after the flood...

I would have liked to choose the Remarkable Rookies but random assignation is OK for me.

I'm OK to start the third round.

wdtr2 wrote on Tue, Dec 5, 2017 09:20 AM UTC:

I would like to be added to the Tournament (If possible) is there a sign-up?

🕸Fergus Duniho wrote on Tue, Dec 5, 2017 02:39 AM UTC:

Random but unequal is fine with me. There is a preset precisely for that. So you don't have to do any random selection of armies yourself.

Nick Wolff wrote on Tue, Dec 5, 2017 02:23 AM UTC:

Sweet.  I'm fine with random, Greg.  Vitya has always beaten me at this game, anyways haha.  Thanks!

Aurelian Florea wrote on Tue, Dec 5, 2017 02:18 AM UTC:

Greg, I did say I'd like in my game a ban on mirror matches, if that is fine with everything :)! Just look on a previous comment of mine (one month ago or something)!

💡📝Greg Strong wrote on Tue, Dec 5, 2017 01:00 AM UTC:

Yup, I think it's about time.  I will assign the games for the next round on Saturday.

I don't think anyone contacted me with an army selection so I'll use random selection for everyone and ensure both players get different armies.

Carlos Cetina wrote on Sun, Dec 3, 2017 11:56 PM UTC:

I'm OK with it too.

Nick Wolff wrote on Sun, Dec 3, 2017 03:22 PM UTC:

I'm not speaking for Fergus, Carlos, or Erik, but I know we have the only games left going on in round 2.  I'm ok with round 3 starting if Greg and everyone who is currently playing a game is.  With the rate that I've been playing lately, mine and Fergus' game will probably last a while longer.

I just wanted to put this out there in case there was any hesitation on anyone's part to start - I'm ok with it.

Aurelian Florea wrote on Mon, Oct 30, 2017 04:57 AM UTC:

First I'd like to ask if one can insure different armies for the game, meaning banning mirror matches or at least FF-FF, if I remember correctly those are banned by the oficial rules :)!

💡📝Greg Strong wrote on Mon, Oct 30, 2017 02:18 AM UTC:

There are six games from the second round still going.  I expect to start the final round in about two weeks.

Before that time - if you'd like to select your army for Chess with Different Armies, please either post your selection here or send me an email if you'd rather your opponent not know your selection before he makes his.  Anyone who has not made a selection before the games are assigned will be assigned an army at random.  In the case of random assignment, I'll make sure both sides are playing different armies.  If both players make selections, however, and choose the same army, so be it.  The only army choices available are the four official armies, which are all pretty closely matched: Fabulous FIDEs, Nutty Nights, Colorbound Clobberers, and Remarkable Rookies.  (The experimental armies may not be balanced, and even Betza's own Meticulous Mashers is way too powerful.)

Erik Lerouge wrote on Sun, Sep 10, 2017 10:43 AM UTC:

Sure, we can't change the tournament rules during this. My apologies.

💡📝Greg Strong wrote on Sat, Sep 9, 2017 10:07 PM UTC:

The games for Round 2 have been assigned.

@Erik, I don't think it would be fair to change the time controls during the tournament.  They were specified as part of the offical rules.  We could possibly, however, assign games for round 3 without waiting for every last game from round 2 to finish if there are only a couple of games left.  I wanted to assign these games last weekend but was not able to.

NOTE: you can select different piece sets in each of these games, and you can also select different background graphics in Eurasian Chess. Once you move with the new settings, as long as you are logged in and click on your name when it is your turn to move, it will use your selected graphics.

I run my FTP program (WinSCP) with the Explorer interface, which will automatically transfer a file when I save it in my text editor, which is very convenient when the connection stays up, but sometimes it goes down without me noticing it. That's what happened. I saved the file, but the connection was down, and the new copy didn't transfer to the site. It should work now.

Erik Lerouge wrote on Sat, Sep 9, 2017 09:03 PM UTC:

Congratulations to all for the first round.

Wouldn't it be possible to give a maximum time for the games in the time settings? We started the first round on June 25, and it has just finished. A time limit of 30 days is possibly too short for most of us, but I think 40-50 days (or max. 2 months) would  certainly works. I'm not the best placed to propose that, since my Chinese chess game against Vitya Makov was one of the lengthiest :) but a time limit would be a good thing if we don't want that the 2017 Tournament ends in 2018.
