Surprises in the 15th European Chess Team Championship. After five rounds,
Israel (headed by Gelfand) and France (headed by Bacrot) are tied in
first
place, and Russia is sixth now, but there many rounds to play yet.

A few hours ago:

Israel beated France 3 - 1

Russia loses against Netherlands 1 - 3

Ukraine 1.5 - 2.5 versus Azerbaijan

Armenia 2 - 2 versus Romania

With these results after six rounds, Israel is leading with ampleness, a
tremendous surprise.

After eight rounds, there is only one round remaining in the xv European
Chess team championship.
Below is the table of first seven positions. As you can see, the
favourites are not included in the incredible list (no one!):

+ = - Pts. Total scores for tie breaking
1 Netherlands 5 3 0 13 19½
2 Israel 5 2 1 12 20½
3 Poland 4 4 0 12 20
4 Georgia 5 2 1 12 18
5 Greece 4 3 1 11 19
6 Czech Republic 5 1 2 11 18½
7 Serbia and Montenegro 5 1 2 11 18½

What is happening with super GM´s from Russia, Ukraine, England, France,
Bulgaria, Azerbaijan, Hungary?

Final standings, top 10:

1 Netherlands 6 3 0 15 22 191½
2 Israel 6 2 1 14 23½ 179½
3 France 6 1 2 13 21½ 184
4 Greece 5 3 1 13 21½ 166½
5 Ukraine 6 0 3 12 23½ 162
6 Poland 4 4 1 12 21½ 177½
7 Georgia 5 2 2 12 19½ 183½
8 Germany 4 3 2 11 20 178½
9 Azerbaijan 4 3 2 11 19½ 185½
10 Czech Republic 5 1 3 11 19½ 179½

Russia(!, a strong team including Svidler and Bareev) and England have not
had a good performance this time, and the major surprise could be Greece.
