Since the 1820s backranks have been altered to thwart opening theory. Fischer was just as ignorant of chess history as Seirawan in the latter's re-introducing compounds of RN and BN to whatever he calls them in Seirawan Chess. Fischer's re-invention in the recent nineties of up to 960 set-ups led to also variants Slide-Shuffle and Deployment and Free Placement. Randomization of array is Mutator applicable to any CV. Instead at the same time of FRC, Ralph Betza proposed changing connectivity of the once-sancrosanct little 64-board. Besides Betza's two-ranks displacement, here are some other board possibilities: http://www.chessvariants.com/d.betza/chessvar/quake/quake.html.

There are also things like Transcendental, T_Chess where the two sides' initial positions do not have to match, and Chaos Chess in which pieces start dropped to other than only the nearest rank.

This seems very difficult to program in ZOG. You practically need to make a new board every time you have an earthquake. The only way would be to have a lot of attributes on the squares, and this slows down the game a LOT. Besides, Zillions can't understand good use of earthquakes. It could be played on Game Courier, however, since you can make new arrays each turn, since it is programmed more rawly than Zillions.

Let's assume yours is very different, Abdul-Rahman, and the name applies for so distinct a game. Nothing is meant to compare yet except the sound-alike names, not having studied yours for the details. RBetza's is whimsical shifted board halves a lot of us recall that was followed up by these serrated boards. Betza's humorous article has counterpart no one noticed before, in the hole in the 'E's for Ea-rthquake. In first look, Quake Chess appears to shift rows either rank or file, so being quite different and warranting own invention tag one would think.

This is very disappointing you know .. it's still not quite the same idea as Quake Chess.
