Incredible set of games in the contest. You can see almost all here. Historical elements in some games, futuristic elements in others, interesting 'normal' variations, extreme little boards, extreme large boards, interesting set of rules, points elements, elements of randomness, unconventional boards, etc, etc. Superb!!!.

We now have all games on the website, except one non-competing game. If yours is not here, contact us please a.s.a.p.! The voting page is planned to be up soon. Many thanks to all contributors! <p> Hans Bodlaender

(I haven't used my member ID in a while, and I think I've forgotten the
password!)

I had two submissions prior to the deadline, unless the emails were
delayed in delivery. A copy of the original submission has been sent to
the contest address.

There is a really good batch of entries for this contest!

Glenn, glad to hear from you! I just checked our e-mail and do not see your game submittals. There may be a temporary problem with the CVP e-mail account. I'll follow-up on this.

Glenn Overby II wrote on Wed, May 25, 2005 11:48 PM UTC:
Thanks for following up, Tony. I hope the e-mail issues get fixed soon.

📝Hans Bodlaender wrote on Sat, May 28, 2005 09:27 PM UTC:
The two games by Glenn are added to those submitted to the contest; I
decided to accept the games for the contest. They'll be added to the list
above in the near future.

Apologies for the delay in the voting page; we hope to have it up soon.

Help! The link on this page to my variant Shatranj Kamil (64) does not work - it needs to end in '64.html'. The link from the TenCubed Chess page (and other entries, I assume) works fine.

The link to Shatranj Kamil (64) is fixed. Links to Glenn Overby's games have been added.

'...The first round of voting will take place from May 15 through June 30,
2005....'.
Can we vote before the end line, or it is going to be re-defined?. I hope
date changes.

I don't mean to speak for Hans, but I believe that the delay in the contest is due to the fact that the editors need help with the creation of the polling system for the game evaluations. Can someone help with this?

I will get on this soon. In the meantime, anyone who has entered the contest but does not yet have a userid and password should register with this website. You will need your userid and password to vote in the polls, which will be required for remaining eligible to win. And I will need a complete list of userids to properly set up banning of inventors from voting in the polls with their own games.

📝Hans Bodlaender wrote on Wed, Jun 8, 2005 03:13 PM UTC:
We'll move the voting dates accordingly. By the way, people are encouraged to vote, but in this contest, voting is not required to be elegible for winning. (See rules.)

I have recently corrected the errors on my entries in this, correcting the relationship between Eurasian and Grander Chess in one and making the 3d array diagram clearer in the other. When's the 45-square contest opening? I've already thought of a couple of entries for it.

Roberto Lavieri wrote on Fri, Jul 8, 2005 01:41 AM UTC:
31 games, and only 7 voters to the present. I think people is still confused with voting dates.

David Paulowich wrote on Fri, Jul 8, 2005 08:16 PM UTC:
I do not plan to cast my votes until August.

Jared McComb wrote on Wed, Sep 7, 2005 12:26 PM UTC:
The links to Taratibu and veSQuj seem to be missing.

Furthermore, the link to Shatranj Kamil 64 should point to
http://www.chessvariants.org/contests/10/shatranjkamil64.html
instead of where it does now.

Jared McComb wrote on Fri, Sep 16, 2005 10:43 PM UTC:
What's going on, anyway? There's been no announcement of a second round of voting.

Jared McComb wrote on Mon, Sep 26, 2005 12:10 AM UTC:
Is anything going on? Like, at all?

Roberto Lavieri wrote on Mon, Oct 3, 2005 12:52 PM UTC:
What´s new?

Jared McComb wrote on Mon, Oct 3, 2005 05:12 PM UTC:
Apparently nothing.

Jared McComb wrote on Mon, Oct 24, 2005 09:08 PM UTC:
Is it just me or is this contest in a coma?

📝Hans Bodlaender wrote on Tue, Oct 25, 2005 06:41 PM UTC:
Apologies for the very long delay. I was too busy with other things, and the contest was too long delayed. Clearly, the voting time for the second round has to be extended (otherwise it would be over before starting). To speed things up: each voter (finalists cannot vote) can send an email to me listing the games from good to less good.

Congratulations to all who made the finals, and again apologies.

📝Hans Bodlaender wrote on Tue, Oct 25, 2005 06:42 PM UTC:
Oh, and please vote for the finals! And thanks to all who voted in the first round.

Reinhard Scharnagl wrote on Mon, Dec 12, 2005 02:43 PM UTC:
I would like to provide a new variant 'Taboo Chess' (if that name is not
already used), which is (hardly to believe) as well a 10x8 and also a 64
squares chess variant. But I am still searching for a matching and still
running contest, where it could be entered.

Regards, Reinhard.

I rewrote significant parts of this page and reorganized it heavily.  It was previously organized as if the contest was still ongoing with various results and updates interspersed. It is now presented as a finished event with the winners highlighted.  The original page is still available here for historical interest in case anyone wants to see the contest in its original presentation.

I plan to make small edits to the pages of some of the game submissions to mention the contest if they currently don't and possibly make other small improvements on some of the more generic pages. I won't mess with the pages of users that I know are currently active and maintaining their own content.

EDIT: Created a 10-contest logo, seen at the top of the page. I'll add this to relevant pages.
