Pawns do not promote. Instead once they reach the last space of the column they 'wrap around' to the same space on the other board. Then procede in reverse direction. Essentialy going in a 'loop'. Pawns ALWAYS move in the same direction on their apropiate boards. So if 'pushed/pulled' through to the 'other' board they then reverse direction. Example. A pawn starting at A2 gets pushed through at A5. On the next turn the pawn now on the other board at A5 would procede TOWARD A1. Once at A1 (round) on its next turn it would goto A1(square) and then procede to A8.
