As an opption to changing stone color, if the white pieces had a black outline I think the visual clarity would be greatly enhanced. As you pointed out, certain monitors might provide better images. I noticed that the java applet version uses white and black stones and somewhat of a spinach-green board. The white stones do show up well on that board. But I actually like your board better.
