I'm sure there are many variants that include the Cannon and/or Vao among Western pieces. I mention two of them in the introduction above. The variant Yáng Qí for example, which is of course more ambitious than mine. I don't know of any, however, that use the Morley-shaped board. And Pawns might look nice on those squares, and I indeed tested the game with them, but they allow the Canoness/Bishop pairs to attack them almost immediately, which I think hampers opening play.
