(10x10, Cells: 100) [All Comments] [Add Comment or Rating]Daniel Zacharias wrote on 2022-05-20 UTCThe suggested changes to the summoning rule seem overly complicated to me. I would suggest instead making the summoned pieces switch sides when captured, like shogi pieces. Then the players would want to be careful about losing the demon, since that would allow the opponent to summon it later. If you want losing a summoner to be more consequential, a captured demon could only switch sides if the capturing player still has the right piece to summon it back. Decimaka (revised). Game where pieces promote on making a capture. (10x10) [All Comments] [Add Comment or Rating]Daniel Zacharias wrote on 2022-05-20 UTCThe rules are clear to me. The Pieces section is slightly awkward to read since the promoted forms sometimes show up before the unpromoted pieces and they aren't arranged in any obvious pattern. Glinski's Hexagonal Chess. Chess on a board made out of hexagons. (Recognized!)[All Comments] [Add Comment or Rating]Daniel Zacharias wrote on 2022-05-14 UTCThe other preset seems to have a problem also. In this game the hexagon alignment switched from vertical to horizontal after the first move and won't go back. Building chess. Add a square after every move.[All Comments] [Add Comment or Rating]Daniel Zacharias wrote on 2022-05-12 UTCThese presets are all broken. They each have a 'conserve' command in the post move 1 section. Glinski's Hexagonal Chess. Chess on a board made out of hexagons. Hopping Sliders[Subject Thread] [Add Response]Daniel Zacharias wrote on 2022-03-04 UTCThank you! It looks like ski-whatever is the only name anyone's used for these pieces. Daniel Zacharias wrote on 2022-03-03 UTCWhere does the ski- name come from then? Daniel Zacharias wrote on 2022-03-02 UTCAre there any games that use pieces that slide in a straight line but always hop over the first square? I know there's the picket, but that doesn't jump. Daniel Zacharias wrote on 2022-02-26 UTCIt seems like the Rules URL is broken for every game. The / at the beginning is removed. I tried fixing it for one of my games and nothing changed. Grand Apothecary Chess-Classic. Very large Board variant obtained trough tinkering with known games.[All Comments] [Add Comment or Rating]Daniel Zacharias wrote on 2022-02-23 UTCI like it! It's always interesting to see the thought behind the choices made when designing a game. Silver Anniversary[Subject Thread] [Add Response]Daniel Zacharias wrote on 2022-02-16 UTCA tournament would still be nice, wouldn't it? Apothecary Chess-Classic. Applet you can play your own variant against.[All Comments] [Add Comment or Rating]Daniel Zacharias wrote on 2022-02-07 UTCI was trying pieces that would need to end their move just before or after a friendly piece, such as (dauf)F, for example. It's able to pass through friendly pieces, but the last passed through piece is never unloaded. Something like yaodfaubQ also fails to unload. Maybe these are too obscure to bother with. Daniel Zacharias wrote on 2022-02-07 UTCThe generated GAME code doesn't work properly with moves that involve unloadng pieces. The last unloading step is never applied and the piece ends up removed. Also, it doesn't recognize the use of 'o' to detect board edges. Might these be supported eventually? Home page of The Chess Variant Pages. It would make sense to have that supported more directly; especially since the interactive diagram can do that already. Daniel Zacharias wrote on 2022-02-06 UTCIt looks like that missing colon was the problem. That was my fault Daniel Zacharias wrote on 2022-02-06 UTCThere was this error. Daniel Zacharias wrote on 2022-02-05 UTCIsn't that because $flipped needs to be set for black? Immobilizer. Pieces standing near an immobilizer may not move.[All Comments] [Add Comment or Rating]Daniel Zacharias wrote on 2022-01-23 UTCWould that mean other pieces could only move if they're within range of a hostile mobilizer? Ideas for future of chess variants[Subject Thread] [Add Response]Daniel Zacharias wrote on 2022-01-20 UTC Well, I didn't mean to imply by my previous post there would be only one Next Chess - previous posts clarified a plurality may be fine, too. I didn't mean to imply that you implied that. I actually like the whole Next Chess idea, whether it's one game or several. Others might have more worthwhile things to say about it than I have. This returns to the main subject of this thread, if people already see the Next Chess topic as flogging a dead horse. Or would that also be flogging a dead horse, too? I don't see it that way. It's an interesting topic. Regarding your question, I have some thoughts about that, but I don't know much since I've never been involved in organized chess playing. It seems like whatever variants do achieve some popularity are very conservative, such as 960. Perhaps many who take chess seriously are interested in chess primarily for the shared experience aspect, or competition—thinking of chess as a sport more than as a game. Someone who thinks that way might perceive any suggestion of a significant change to the rules as promoting an entirely different game—a revolution rather than an evolution. Does that make any sense? Fantastic XIII. This is the G.C. preset for Fantastic XIII, a bizarre CV,13 types of pieces on 13x13 board.[All Comments] [Add Comment or Rating]Daniel Zacharias wrote on 2022-01-20 UTCIt seems to be fixed if you change each occurrence of "checkride" to "checkaride". 25 comments displayedLater ⇩Reverse Order⇧ Earlier⇩ Earliest⇧Permalink to the exact comments currently displayed.
