Isn't one king supposed to have a different marking, without the little
'tick' mark on it?

It is interesting to see all the alternative names of the pieces. It explains why the 'chariot' symbol occurs on the piece inheriting the position of the mainland Rook as well as that inheriting its move.

Hey really cool, ive played this game using the western pieces and i can
see why it's easier, suppose the japanese probably say the same
though...

thanks! mail me at [email protected]

Yes, the other 'king' shouldn't have the little 'tick'!

Historically, both had it. I think some lazy Japanese person just didn't do it on one of them because King General makes sense, too.

What is your source for saying that historically both Kings had the tick?

A Shogi instruction video, I think.
