I am not a programmer, so if anyone who is would like to make a Zillions file or a Game Courier preset for King of the Mountain, please feel free to do so. I only ask that you let me know.

The only reason I changed the name from King of the Hill to King of the Mountain was due to the comment below about not wanting to post a variant on the site with the same name as an existing variant elsewhere on the internet. While I do prefer King of the Hill, King of the Mountain is also fine with me.

Arena Cheturshogqi. 2-4 Players on large board with mutating pieces and piece drops. (13x13, Cells: 169) [All Comments] [Add Comment or Rating]
💡📝Paul Newton wrote on Wed, Mar 22, 2023 08:00 PM UTC in reply to H. G. Muller from 10:58 AM:

Your analysis of the rule is certainly valid. I considered not leaving that rule in and honestly only left that rule in as a "flavor" nod to Shogi. I figured that between the fact that you only have three pawns per player and many of them will end up mutated from being captured in the Arena, including or leaving that particular rule out wouldn't really make a huge difference in the gameplay. It could be interesting to play with your suggested rule change and see if that makes much of a difference or not over the course of a a series of games...

I have added links to the Avery site, photos of different parts of the process and some of the sets made with this method. I believe that the article is ready for publication.

I have saved the new images that I hope will be the correct size now. Here's hoping it worked...

💡📝Paul Newton wrote on Mon, Mar 20, 2023 09:29 PM UTC:

I have tried to re-size the boards one more time. If this still does not work, please let me know what I can do to fix it. Thank you for your patience with my lack of technical acumen!

💡📝Paul Newton wrote on Mon, Mar 20, 2023 09:02 PM UTC in reply to Fergus Duniho from 12:50 AM:

I am not sure what to do to correct this problem. All I did to make the images was to copy the image out of Excel and paste it into Paint.net and save it. I am not an uber-technical computer user and I truly do not know how to fix the number of pixels in an image. I am more than willing to make any fixes that I can, but to do this one myself would require some clear and simple instructions from someone who knows how to do it...

💡📝Paul Newton wrote on Sun, Mar 19, 2023 10:38 PM UTC:

Are there any further issues that need to be addressed with this before it can be published? I think that I made the necessary corrections, but I am not sure if I missed anything. Thank you!

You have that right! It is amazing how many different variations there are on the theme of chess, and so many of them such fun to try! Thank you for commenting on the Hero piece. This version of Wizard Chess I think is the most fun, though there is a lot to keep track of... If you play it some time, let me know what you think.

Thank you for making the needed adjustments to the size of the board files! I do not know HTML, so that is greatly appreciated.

I have replaced the board images with new board images with larger print for the rank and file markers and have sized the boards using your recommended coding.

@ Jean-Louis: I will add a link to the Avery site. Avery is a company that makes office supplies, in this case sticker labels designed to be used with Microsoft Word or other word processing programs. They provide templates that can be used by the word processing programs to ensure that the spacing will be correct for printing on their labels.

I am well aware that there are many variants available commercially and on other sites that are not on the CVP. I merely thought from reading the instructions regarding posting a new game on the CVP that the intent was to not have multiple member created games on the CVP site with the same name. Thank you for clarifying that for me. It may be helpful to make that a bit more clear in the "How to Post Your Own" article as well.

I can certainly include some photos of some sets that I have printed with this method, as well as some of the steps along the way. It is a really good idea to include the visuals. It may take me a few days to do so, since I do not have any photos of the steps of the process and I will have to make another set to get them. Bummer! I have to print a new chess variant! ;)

I had not seen your hexagonal board article yet, thank you for including a link to it! I have not yet been able to catch up to all of the things posted since I last frequented the site many years ago. May I have your permission to edit the text to include a link to your article on making the hexagonal board?

I have changed the name to "King of the Mountain" and I have added the link to the piececlopedia as well as editing the text of the setup section using the rank and file wording and including the example using the board square references. If there is anything else that you think needs to be added, edited or clarified, please let me know. Thank you so much for your time and effort to make this website the excellent site that it is!

I searched the index of existing games alphabetically as you suggest in the article on posting new games and I did not find any reference to an existing game named King of the Hill. I will modify my game's name, but you might want to check and see if all games are properly coming up when and alpha index search is done...

By the way, I was not sure how to make the link from the Kangaroo to the piececlopedia entry for Kangaroo (Newton), so if you could please add that I would appreciate it very much!
