@Bob: Yes. I imagine a piece that can land on a friendly piece and immediatly kills (removes) that piece and all pieces in the 8 squares around, friend or enemy.

It is possible to capture an enemy sandworm. It is possible to move to an adjacent square to a sandworm, friend or enemy. The sandworm capture adjacent pieces only when it moves.

@ HG: "If you want to see a running install featuring the newly added games, you can use the one on CVP (just select any of the dedicated variant links on the Jocly overview page, and then click 'other jocly games' at the bottom right to select a game)"

Yes, that's what I wanted. Thanks.

I also know the address for François's Biscandine.

As the matter of fact, why don't you update that page "Play Chess Variants with Jocly" which was listing all available games until last year?

Maybe it is what you plan to do later on?

@Adam: you wrote "uploadnig a new Jocly game to the site." Which site are you talking about? The one linked to this comment brings to a page where the last update is from 2023. And that page has a hyperlink on "Jocly" word which is broken.

Where can your work on Jocly with François, HG, can be found?

Thanks

I had the same problem and same message. Now, this has changed and when I try to enter a new game, here called "NewgamecazauxIdontbelieveitexists", I get this:

Error: You may not edit NewgamecazauxIdontbelieveitexists, because this (MS) is a preexisting submission that you (jean-louiscazaux) are not the author (duniho or ) of. If you chose the same name by coincidence, please go back and enter a different name.

I've made several tentatives. Apparently, I cannot enter any new game.

It reminds me of the sandworm of Dune. Well, if it was a sandworm it would have a larger diameter, which a could be a good idea because in reality I would fear this piece breaks too easily.

Jean-Louis Cazaux wrote on Mon, Apr 22 09:22 AM UTC in reply to Bob Greenwade from Sun Apr 21 04:57 PM:

I like these two 3D designs. You could do a similar one for the Señora.

You could have mentionned that these pieces behave as the opposite of the so-called Chinese pieces, xiangqi's Cannon (a.k.a. Pao), Vao and Leo.

The names Faro, Loco, Señora are smart. A semaphor (Faro) is a kind of tower (Rook is Torre/Tour in Spanish/French), Loco is the Spanish translation of Fou in French which is the name for the Bishop in chess, and obviously Señora, lady in English is related to Dama/Dame in Spanish/French, meaning lady in English and the name of the Queen in chess.

Good post.

"I just looked at these pieces on my Likebook Mars, and they fade into the background too much on it."

I don't have a Likebook Mars, so I don't know what you mean.

Jean-Louis Cazaux wrote on Sat, Apr 20 01:40 PM UTC in reply to Fergus Duniho from 11:56 AM:

@ Fergus: well, it's a bit your fault Fergus. You asked both Bob and me and then it was not possible to understand that you were not speaking to both of us. About the color, I first understood that you wanted pieces on a blue background, so did Bob, then that you wanted blue pieces on a black background. If you prefer white pieces on a black background it is not a problem at all.

Actually, there is something VERY simple to do, a piece of cake for you. You go to:

https://www.thingiverse.com/kazo65/designs

There you can download the .stl of the piece you would like.

Then you open that .stl with:

https://3dviewer.net/

And you can have a snapshot of that piece with the color you like, the background you like, the orientation you like, the size you like, etc.

If you can't do that and need help, please tell me exactly which piece/color/background you would like, I will make it for you.

Jean-Louis Cazaux wrote on Sat, Apr 20 08:27 AM UTC:

@Bob: I have used this on-line viewer which is working very nice. I recommend, you can easily change the background, the color of the piece, the size of the snapshot, etc.

Jean-Louis Cazaux wrote on Sat, Apr 20 08:06 AM UTC:

Here the images you asked Fergus. The blue might be too saturated.

Jean-Louis Cazaux wrote on Sat, Apr 20 07:56 AM UTC:

@ Fergus: I have made images of some of my 3D pieces in blue on black background. I wished to upload the images but I lack space to do it. So I wanted to create a fake page named "Cazaux Vault" to get some room where to upload but I get this message:

"As a veteran contributor with nine or more submissions published so far, you are limited to submitting nine of your games for review and publication at a time. If you would like to post more, cooperate with the editors to get your submissions accepted, or revert something to a work-in-progress and submit something else."

What is this? I don't have 9 games in waiting!?

Does that mean I cannot create any new page?

Jean-Louis Cazaux wrote on Fri, Apr 19 09:12 PM UTC in reply to Bob Greenwade from 05:41 PM:

@Bob: which viewer or software do you use to get those images? Blender? or something else, maybe more friendly?

Jean-Louis Cazaux wrote on Fri, Apr 19 09:10 PM UTC in reply to Fergus Duniho from 04:40 PM:

I agree with your 2) and 3), especially 3). Unfortunately I never made any Nightrider so far. This because I don't like leaper-runners which are difficult to predict on board. But I might do one, one day, as well as the Grasshopper.

I would add another criteria: the 3D piece which is represented should be realistically 3D-printable and not too fragile.

@ Fergus: I can make an image of any 3D piece without any background. Just tell me which one from here if you want to make a test:

Of course, that can be done with Bob's pieces as well.

@ HG: thank you for your answer. Indeed, all my other games with King's jump were done without using the PTA, so I cannot make a direct comparison. I think you are right on this.

I have tested. Apparently I get the same. The square of King's jump is highlighted even though the K is in check. But if I do that move, I get a long message with the moves, the code and starting by:

GameEnd That moves through or out of check

Use your browser's BACK button to go back to the previous page, then reload if necessary.

For general reference, here is the complete list of moves:

If I go back with my browser, I get the message "Ce document a expiré" that you understand probably. But even though this is discouraging to continue, there is also a button "retry" and if I retry I finally get the game just before the King's jump. Indeed, it is then possible to continue to play.

So I think that as you mean, the problem is disturbing but rather cosmetic. If they know what is happening, the players can continue to play, which is the major point.

Thanks again.

I repost this message which was probably missed:

@ HG Muller: I have a problem that I can't solve. In many of my variants I have a rule of King's leap to a 2nd square replacing castling. As for regular castling, the King may not leap when it is under check. It works fine for Metamachy, Zanzibar, Maasai, Terachess II, etc. But in Bigorra, the GC would let a CHECKED King leap to a 2nd-square! Actually, it marks the destination square as a possible move, but if the player does it (so, violating the real rule), the game ends with an error message saying the King has moved out of chess.

Why the Bigorra GC is behaving like that whereas Metamachy or Terachess II for example don't have this behaviour, I don't know. I would like to fix that bug in Bigorra GC but I don't know what to do.

I ask you because that GC had been made with the PTA from the ID. Could you please have a look on that GC?

Second point, would it possible to play with Alfaerie graphics? I don't like to use other graphics because it adds another difficulty which is not needed in my opinion.
