Grand Cavalier Chess Photographs
Here are some photographs of my game Grand Cavalier
Chess. There are two sets of photographs. They use the same pieces
but different boards. The Cavaliers are Knights from four medium sized
Chess sets. The Knight King, Queen, Marshalls, Paladins, and
Nightriders are the King, Queen, Rooks, Bishops, and Knights from a
larger Chess set. The Cannons are painted spools.

Set 1
The board in this first set is made from blue index cards. I taped 15
index cards together with strapping tape and used a lip edge ruler and
permanent markers to draw the board on the other side. I colored the
dark squares black, and I colored half of the light squares with
another shade of blue. The squares are 1.5" wide. The three-color
board is used to help visualize the moves of Nightriders.
Set 2
This board is made from 1.75" posterboard tiles which David Howe made into
mats by laminating squares together. The mats comes in different
sizes, and 4x4 mats and 2x2 mats were used to piece this board
together. If we were playing a game, we would have put clear plastic
sheets over the board, but to avoid glare, we omitted them for the
photographs.
